LUC 2017 Recap: CourseMill Advanced Reports: Sifting Through Data Is Easier Than You Think!

LUC 2017 Session Recap

At this year’s Lectora® User Conference in Cincinnati, Jane Erwin of the Michigan Public Health Institute (MPHI) presented “CourseMill® Advanced Reports: Sifting Through Data Is Easier Than You Think!” In the session, Jane gave an overview of Advanced Reports (AR) and explained the importance of knowing what kind of information you want to see in the end and led a discussion about the kinds of questions MPHI and other AR users can ask clients to help determine the shape of a custom AR.During the session, we took a deeper look at marking certain reports as private or protected to limit the number of out of the box reports available to secondary reporters. This reduces confusion and shows recipients only relevant data. While it’s important to provide stakeholders with information, sometimes the reports that can be pulled are chock full of information that may not be relevant at the time. The biggest takeaway for me during the conversation was how to respond to the question: “I want to know how many people have TAKEN a course?” This branched off into a conversation about what the word taken really means. To some people, it means complete the course, while to others it means passing the test. There are also many other interpretations. So it’s always a good idea to define what exactly you’re looking for before you pull the data. Thanks for a great LUC 2017 session on CourseMill, Jane!
