Creating an eLearning Portfolio Using Your Community Content

One of my favorite (and lesser-known) features on the Trivantis® Community is the ability to share Lectora® courses. As a diehard developer turned Community Manager, I still get the itch to play around in Lectora, so I love it when I have an excuse to create something new. If you are creating content that you’d love to get out into the world, there’s no better way than to place all your shared titles in one place on the Community, then link them to your portfolio. Presto! Instant recognition of how awesome you are is sure to follow. Here are 4 ways of placing your Trivantis Community content onto your portfolio or online profiles.

  1. LinkedIn

While on your LinkedIn profile, select the add videos, images, presentations, and documents button. This button is available in the summary, experience, and education sections. If the content should be associated to your general profile, you can place it into the summary section. Additionally, you can add content to a particular instance of experience or education like your current job or education. (If you don’t see the button right away, roll over your job title or college.) This opens a new section where you can insert a web address or browse for the files. Navigate to your shared content or contest entry on the Trivantis Community and copy the link. I typically use the general link, so visitors can see the description, preview it, or choose to download the files. Place it into the web address bar and select continue. The content will be added to your profile, and you’ll have the option to leave or change the title or description. Be sure to select save to keep your changes.

  1. Websites and Blogs

If you have a website or blog, you can also add your Trivantis Community content. The easiest way to do this is to upload your preview image onto the site and link the image. Or include description text below the image that links to the site. You can also embed the Trivantis Community page onto your website or blog. I personally prefer Iframes because I find they’re widely supported and easily configurable. You can change the width and height, add or remove a border, or make it responsive. I suggest linking to the preview of your course, so visitors can get the full effect of your course development. Here’s a sample Iframe code:<iframe width="720" height="540" src=" http://community.trivantis.com/wp-content/uploads/lectora-published/312054/312253/index.html" name="iframe_a"></iframe><p><a href=" http://community.trivantis.com/wp-content/uploads/lectora-published/312054/312253/index.html" target="iframe_a">

  1. Sharing

You can also share your courses from the Community at any time. From all pages in the Community you can access the share option. From here you can share your courses on social media, including Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Reddit, Tumblr, and Email.

  1. Community Portfolio

On your Trivantis Community profile, you can also share a portfolio that’s created for you as you go. Any content that’s shared in the share section is automatically added to your portfolio page. Since the Community is open to all visitors, you can share your link with anyone, so they can see your file(s). (However, if they wanted to download your files, they would need to join the site.)
